March 2023: Kata Farkas, Luke Hillary, Jamie Thorpe, David Walker, James Lowther, James McDonald, Shelagh Malham, and Davey Jones win the MDPI Methods and Protocols 2021 Best Paper Award for Concentration and Quantification of SARS-CoV-2 RNA in Wastewater Using Polyethylene Glycol-Based Concentration and qRT-PCR. Congratulations!
May 2022: Kata is presenting at the ISFEV 2020 (16-20 May) meeting on COVID WBE and waterborne virus monitoring.
March 2022: National reports for COVID-19 surveillance are now available for download (see publications page). Kata attended the IBMS 2022 conference to talk about COVID WBE and waterborne virus monitoring. Luke Hillary reaches the end of his PhD journey – amazing work.
February 2022: The Illumina NextSeq has arrived for improved sequencing of viruses.
January 2022: The EU BlueAdapt project has been approved. We are really looking forward to working with Will Gaze and Exeter for the next few years. Viral and AMR behaviour in freshwaters and the coastal zone.
December 2021: We do not welcome the arrival of omicron in the Christmas holidays.
October 2021: The TapeStation and SeqStudio come on stream. Also welcome to the new team members
September 2021: The Quebec-Bangor project for enhanced Canada-Wales collaboration was approved on AMR and viral surveillance. We look forward to the joint experiments.
August 2021: The new ACE projects on improved methods for COVID-19 surveillance commences.
June 2021: Phase III of the Wales National network for COVID-19 surveillance funded (with Cardiff University, 2021-2022)
May 2021: Winner of the Welsh Regional Water Industry Innovation Prize for work on COVID-19 surveillance (with Cardiff University and Welsh Water)
February 2021: Phase II of the Wales National network for COVID-19 surveillance funded (with Cardiff University, 2021)
November 2020: New DEFRA-funded high-throughput COVID-19 surveillance lab opened in the Alun Roberts Tower.
